I'm too old for clubs, too cheap for Michelin starred restaurants, maxed out on museums and uninterested in shopping - urban wineries seem like just the thing for my next visit to London.

Great piece. I'm struggling with the concept of 'a craft brewer but with wine' but that is purely down to my age I think. I do love the idea of an English sweet sparkler though, but you'd have to make sure it didn't taste like Babycham.

I visited Brooklyn Winery for a travel piece I wrote for the Indy about a lifetime ago https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/americas/brooklyn-bite-the-big-apple-6292787.html?loginSuccessful=true. The idea of making wine in the city blew my tiny mind at the time.

Very nice to see Charalaboglou mentioned! Made in the tiny village called Krinida, it’s a 5-10 minute drive from the little village in Greece I spent many childhood summers in. They make some excellent wines and benefit from the amazing diurnal temperature swings brought on by the nearby mount Pangeon that towers over the region. Proper wine country, yet as off the beaten track as you get! Matt, who along with his wife makes the wine, hails from New Zealand, which makes tastings very easy and fun should you not be fluent in Greek.

Thanks! I’m in Northern Greece in mid April, so maybe I’ll try to head over there
